Hight court

premiere-chambre

The first Chamber

The first chamber of the High Court of Paris sits in the same place as the former Parlement chamber.
This chamber was completely destroyed by the fire of 1871 and was rebuilt by Duc and Dommey. The back is covered with oak paneling, whereas some of the decorative elements include souvenirs of royal sovereign justice, in particular the porcupine, which was the emblem of Louis XII.
After the Parlement was dissolved, the chamber was used by the Revolutionary Tribunal, this is where queen Marie-Antoinette appeared before the judges. From the time of the Revolution until 1871, it was assigned to the Supreme Court of Appeal.
